The Woodward Society
The Woodward Society is the major gifts club of the Detroit Medical Center, recognizing the significant and ongoing role of philanthropy at the medical center.
The Society is named for the Honorable Augustus B. Woodward who was a federal judge sent by President Thomas Jefferson to help rebuild Detroit after it was destroyed by fire in 1805. Judge Woodward was a philosopher and scientific writer and was especially interested in the future health and education needs of the community. Today, Michigan's nationally recognized systems of health care and higher education reflect the spirit of Judge Woodward's early vision.
Judge Woodward's dream has become the legacy of The Woodward Society. Members of the Society are caring people of our community, who contribute to improve upon our remarkable progress in the field of health care, benefiting people today and for generations to come.
